Fred Claus 2007

The story begins with Fred watching from downstairs as his new baby brother Nicholas is being born. Fred meets his new brother and promises to be the best big brother in the whole world. On Nicholas's birthday, Fred gives him a journal with his name on it, but Nicholas wants to gather up his presents and give them to a needy orphan on the other side of the village who needs them more than Nicholas does. Mama Claus agrees, and Nicholas gathers up all his toys and leaves. Fred feels unappreciated by this. Whenever Fred tries to make his parents proud, Nicholas makes them more proud by coming down the chimney. Fred is high in a treetop talking to a bird, who he named Chirp Chirp. Nicholas cuts down the tree leaving Fred feeling angry, Chirp Chirp never returned. Fred started to resent his brother, his parents and also his life. Whilst everybody is exchanging gifts, Fred sat in the corner. Fred, feeling angry, throws an apple at Nicholas's head. Mama Claus asks Nicholas what is wrong, but Nicholas didn't respond. As Fred grew worse, Nicholas become more generous and fulfilled his mother's prophecy, becoming a Saint. Everybody loves him and knows him by the name of Santa Claus (Paul Giamatti), whilst his older brother Fred (Vince Vaughn), is a repo-man who steals everything he re-possesses. Fred repossessed a little girl's 55 inch TV and the little girl kicks him in the shin. Whilst in Chicago, Fred gets arrested for impersonating Santa Claus and not having a licence to work on the street. Fred gets arrested for the crime and calls Santa to bail him out. Santa agrees to bail him out, but on one condition: Fred must go back to The North Pole and repay his younger brother by working in his workshop. Fred travels to the North Pole to help his brother in return for fifty-thousand dollars, money he needs to start a casino. Fred is stationed in the naughty-nice department, and is tasked with reviewing the files of children, and deciding whether or not they're naughty or nice, and stamping them as such. Complications arise when an vengeful efficeny agent comes to the North Pole and threatens to shut Santa Claus down. He warrents a three-strike policy, and if Santa gets three strikes, his factory will be shut down, and he will be relocated to Antarctica. Fred unwittingly gains Santa's first strike by starting a party amongst the elves, leaving them to neglect work. Fred has finished working at the North Pole and Santa gives Fred a gift to take home with him before he leaves to go back to New York City. Fred returns home to his apartment and shortly after, goes to a sibling counselling program. No one in the group believes his brother is Santa Claus. Fred opens his gift and it's a bird house with a letter of apology from Santa for cutting down his tree. Fred returns to the North Pole as soon as possible, even though it is a tough trip to get there. Clyde, the vengeful agent, succeeds in shutting Santa down. It is then up to Fred to encourage the elves to make enough toys for all the children. However, the elves are too discouraged by having Christmas shut down to do any work. Fred eventually manages to reinvigorate them by having them make toys that can be made in the shortest amount of time possible (baseball bats and hula hoops). He must also deliver the toys before sunrise. While Fred is out delivering toys, Clyde attempts to stop him by cutting off the power, and ordering the elves to leave. Santa then recognizes who Clyde is. Clyde apparently made Santa's naughty list in 1968. Kids used to make fun of him for his glasses, calling him four-eyed Clyde. Clyde became angry with this and would occasionally pick fights with other kids for this. That Christmas, he asked Santa for a Superman Cape, but didn't get it. Santa realized that Clyde wasn't naughty, but bitter at the way he was treated, and didn't know how to handle it properly. Santa decides to give Clyde his overdue Christmas present, which has apparently been lengthened to suit his adult size. Clyde then tries it on, and, feeling better about himself, decides to restart the power (but there's a short-circuit the second he flips the switch). In spite of this, Fred saves Christmas, makes peace with his brother, wins back his girlfriend, and somewhat finally impresses his parents.
